The Season of Lent

Lent is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is a season for reflection and taking stock.

The Season of Advent

Few times are more sacred for a family or household than Christmas. Along with the Advent Season, Christmas time is rich in traditions which, despite modern commercial exploitation, still stir our hearts and imagination. The Christmas tree, the manger scene, the music and carols, the lights shining in the winter darkness joyfully proclaim the birth of Jesus Christ and call us to come and adore him.

We are still on the move!

Ivy Bluff United Methodist Church is a congregation on the move. This congregation was part of a charge for over one hundred years but in 2006 became, for the first time, a stand-alone church, with its own part-time pastor.  The opportunity to stand in ministry gave Ivy Bluff the ability to begin to flex their muscles for Christ, and flex their muscles they did.

A Church on the Move !

Believers and Seekers,

Ivy Bluff United Methodist Church is on the Move. I am excited to announce that Ivy Bluff will become a Station Church beginning July 1, 2011. That means there will be a full-time pastor on staff, available to folks in the church as well as the community. Ivy Bluff has been a part of the Christian community of Cannon County for well over 125 years. We have been part of a charge (two churches), and a stand alone church (part-time pastor) for the past five years. God is working within our community. You are invited to be a part of "A church on the Move." Come and worship with us.

Blessings, Rev. Danny M. Freeman

Watch Night Services

The typical image of New Year's Eve is a group of revelers with party hats and noisemakers, ringing in the new year with champagne and Auld Lang Syne. But on that same night, churches, including a growing number of United Methodist churches, welcome the coming year in a different way,  with a Watch Night service. The service is always upbeat, folks rejoice in making it to the end of another year.

Working for God

As believers, we are called to be God's Hands, feet, and voice within our own community.  Search your heart, question your actions, to the true meaning of being a Christian. Answer God's call with your own abilities. Get to work for the kingdom. When you work for the kingdom your life will be enriched more than you can comprehend. Let God work through you.

"Back to Church Sunday"

Sept. 19th,  is the National Day of "Back to Church."  Ivy Bluff UMC invites all who have attended or visited Ivy Bluff in the past to return for a visit. Or, if you are searching for a church family, try us. Out goal is to make disciples of Christ. There is no better place to start than with the people you know and love, or the new Christian friends you hope to make.  If you have been away from the covenant of Christ and seek  to enhance that relationship again. We hope you make that journey with us.

Trusting GOD in the Hard Times

Is it me, or does it seem that life is getting harder to cope with? Our economy is suffering, loss of jobs, economic and environmental disasters abound.  Where do we turn during the hard times? People respond in  different ways. They either try to escape them, or they face them.  The Bible gives us examples of individuals who faced hard times and how they responded to them. One such person is Elijah, the prophet. During extraordinary challenging times, Elijah turned to God for guidance.

Pentecost (Whitsunday)

The observance of the coming of the Holy Spirit, fifty days after Easter. (Acts 2:1-21) The Parament colors are Red. Some recognize this anniversary  as the beginning of the Christian chruch. The "Season after Pentecost" begins with the day after Pentecost and continues until Advent. Known as Ordinary Time, and "Kingdomtide."

Homecoming at Ivy Bluff

Join us for homecoming at Ivy Bluff United Methodist Church, May 2nd 2010.  Ivy Bluff UMC was organized in 1899 as a congregation.
